Supplies of Iranian gas to Iraq can begin in May

Almaty. March 3. Silkroadnews - Natural gas supplies from Iran to Baghdad, the Iraqi capital, can start in early May of this year, transmits the Iranian News Agency (IrTAG) on Tuesday.
As stated in the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), the works on a gas pipeline between the two neighboring countries came to the final stage.
According to the head of NIGC on exports Alireza Komeli, in accordance with bilateral agreements, Baghdad will daily receive 4 million cubic meters of natural gas. And in the future this volume will increase to 35 million cubic meters.
At the same time, the source said that the early completion of work on the construction of the pipeline and its commissioning will largely depend on the security situation in the eastern regions of Iraq.
Meanwhile A.Komeli mentioned the plans to lay a second pipeline between Iran and Iraq, which is expected to link the gas-bearing regions of the Islamic Republic with a major port city of Basra in southern Iraq. According to him, with the commissioning of this line, exports of Iranian natural gas to Iraq in the future may reach 70 million cubic meters per day.
