Almaty. November 14. Silkroadnews - Syria urged the UN to halt the deadly airstrikes by the U.S. coalition, the Iranian Telegraph Agency (IrTAG) reports referring to the Iran Daily newspaper.
“Syria has called on the UN to halt the US led-coalition’s attacks on civilians after over a dozen people are killed in separate airstrikes across the country,” the report said.
In the letter sent to the UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the chairman of the Security Council, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs severely condemned the coalition’s actions against civilians.
In the letter, Syria stressed that many of those who claim to care about the rule of law and human rights turn a blind eye to the atrocities the coalition committed in the provinces of Raqqah and Deir ez-Zor.
Syria also urged the UN Security Council “shoulder its main responsibility of preserving international peace and security and take immediate action to stop the brutal crimes committed by the illegal coalition against the innocent civilians and prevent more crimes from happening.”
The coalition led by the United States has been conducting air strikes against the IS in Syria since September 2014 without any authorization from the government of Damascus or the UN mandate.
The coalition has repeatedly been accused of attacking and killing civilians and failing to achieve its goal of destroying the IS.
