Tajik somoni depreciated by 12.5% against the U.S. dollar

Almaty. July 5. Silkroadnews – For six months Tajikistan’s somoni depreciated by 12.5% against the U.S.  dollar, Tajik telegraph agency (TajikTA) reported on Tuesday.

“The official rate of the Tajik currency (somoni) decreased by 12.5% against the U.S. dollar for the first half of this year,” the National Bank reported.

As of December 31, 2015, $1 was equal to 6.9902 somoni. On the last day of this June $1 became equal to 7.8680 somoni.

It should be noted that somoni’s significant depreciation against dollar was recorded this January and made almost 12.2%. In February the Tajik currency decrease against dollar made 0.3% only, followed by slight strengthening even over the next months (by 0.0016 somoni or 0.12%).

In the meantime, the official rate of somoni against euro decreased by 14.3% in the first half of the year (from 7.6389 to 8.7335 for 1 euro).

As for Russian ruble, in the first half of this year somoni fell by 15.7% – from 0.1031 somoni per ruble at the end of December of last year to 0.1193 somoni per ruble at the end of June of this year.

According to Tajikistan’s National Bank, the Tajik currency’s official rate to the U.S. dollar fell by 31.7% – from 5.3074 to 6.9902 somoni over last year.
