Tajikistan and Afghanistan discussed national borders control strengthening
Almaty. August 11. Silkroadnews – In Dushanbe Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon discussed the situation on the Tajik-Afghan border with Mohammad Hanif Atmar, national security advisor to the Afghan president, Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA) reported on Thursday.
“During the conversation the sides discussed the issues of strengthening control over interstate Tajik-Afghan border, activation of joint struggle against terrorism, extremism and narcotics smuggling”, the press service of the President of Tajikistan stated.
The meeting agenda also included regulation of border crossings checkpoints operations at the interstate bridges, strengthening of border troops coordination and cooperation between Tajikistan and Afghanistan security forces.
TajikTA reminds, there are 7 armed conflicts got registered on the Tajik-Afghan border this year, 8 illegal infiltrators have been killed. The Tajik-Afghan border also serves as a channel for drugs smuggling to the “black markets” of Central Asia and Russia. Recently the extremist groups have activated in the north of Afghanistan, which raises concerns of the countries of the Central Asian region and the world as a whole.
