Tajikistan and IDB signed a $115 million road agreement
Almaty. May 17. Silkroadnews – Tajikistan and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) signed a $115 million agreement on the road construction, Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA) reported on Wednesday.
“The signing ceremony of the credit agreement on “Construction of the Kulyab-Kalaikhumb Road, sites A and F” project between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Islamic Development Bank took place in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). The total project cost is $115.50 million, of which $20 million is a credit by the IDB”, press center of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Tajikistan informs.
The project has been designed to improve living conditions and economic growth in Tajikistan through a year-round, reliable and direct ground transportation services between the country’s western part, including the capital of Dushanbe, and the eastern region of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region.
It is also aimed at improving regional transit and developing trade with neighboring countries (Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, China, Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan).
The plan provides for construction of a 58-km dual highway roadway, of which (A) section has a length of 32km connecting Kulyab and Shurabad, and (F) section is 26 km, connecting Shkev and Kalaykhumb.
As expected, the project will start in July 2017 and scheduled to be completed in 2022.
