Tajikistan and Pakistan agreed to expand cooperation in energy, industry and commerce

Almaty. October 10. Silkroadnews – Tajikistan and Pakistan will expand cooperation in energy, industry and trade, Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA) reports.

«On October 7 in Dushanbe First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Nizomiddin Zohid and Pakistani Ambassador to Tajikistan Tariq Iqbal Soomro discussed the expansion of cooperation in trade, economic, energy, industrial, transport and communication sectors», the statement said.

The sides discussed future plans for the practical implementation of the agreements reached at the meetings of two countries' leaders in Islamabad and Dushanbe. The meeting participants noted the important role of joint inter-agency groups in the expansion of the Tajik-Pakistani cooperation.

According to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, last year the total amount of the Tajik-Pakistani trade turnover amounted to around $65 million, which is 28% lower than in 2014. According to the Pakistani Ambassador Tariq Iqbal Soomro, in the coming years the volume of the Tajik-Pakistani bilateral trade turnover is planned to raise to $500 million.
