Almaty. 5 May. Silkroadnews - Tajikistan and Pakistan plan to increase trade turnover to $500 million, reports the Tajik news agency (TajikTA) on Tuesday.
"The agreement was reached in Islamabad on the Tajik-Pakistani bilateral consultations", - says the publication.
As noted, during the consultations Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Nizomiddin Zohidi and Special Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Pakistan Amjad Hussain Sial expressed interest in increasing trade relations between the two countries, which for the last year decreased due to the unstable situation in Afghanistan and the crisis in the global economy .
A. Sial said that Pakistan attaches great importance to relations with Tajikistan, which have significant potential for further development.
Also during the consultations was covered a wide spectrum of bilateral relations. The sides expressed interest in the development of transport and communications, the implementation of CASA-1000 project, which will lead to the supply of electricity from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The sides exchanged views on cooperation in the fight against terrorism and extremism, regional security.
During the meeting the sides agreed to hold regular consultations in 2016 in Dushanbe.
In addition, N.Zohidi met with Adviser to the Prime Minister of Pakistan's National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, and heads of ministries and departments of the country.
According to the Statistics Agency of Tajikistan, the volume of trade with Pakistan in 2014, compared with 2013 year decreased by 3.3%, amounting to nearly $90 million.
Meanwhile, in recent years there is a dynamic growth of trade turnover between Tajikistan, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Pakistan has repeatedly stated its readiness to provide its territory and maritime ports for transportation of goods from Tajikistan.
