Tajikistan launched Sangtuda-2

"President of RT E. Rahmon and President of Iran Hassan Rouhani took part in the opening ceremony of the Sangtuda-2 on the Vakhsh River in Tajikistan", - said the press service of the head of state.
The two leaders through videoconference attended a ceremony of full commissioning of Sangtuda-2.
According to information, the launch of the hydropower plant will increase annual electricity output to 500 million kW/h, and the volume of electricity shortage in the autumn-winter period will be reduced by 15%.
According to the agency, the design of the station began in the 1970s. Construction of the plant began in the late 1980s, in early 90s work was suspended due to lack of funding and the Civil War. In 1995, the Iranian government announced its readiness to invest $180 million in the completion of HPP.
In January 2005, in Dushanbe, Russian, Tajik and Iranian sides signed a protocol on the completion of Sangtuda HPP-1 and HPP-2. According to the protocol HPP-2 in its entirety was completed by Iranian and Tajik sides. After start-up 12.5 years, Sangtuda-2 is considered the property of Iran, and then become the property of Tajikistan. Plant capacity is 220 MW.
