Tajikistan ranks 75th among 167 countries on Global Slavery Index
Beijing. Jul 25. Silkroadnews - Tajikistan ranks 75th among 167 countries on Global Slavery Index, the Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA) reports on Wednesday.
According to the newly released report, 39 thousand of Tajik people are living in modern slavery.
Tens of thousands of Tajik citizens are living in modern slavery in Russia, where, according to the organization’s estimates, there are 794 thousand slaves work, the authors of the index note.
To note, the modern slavery refers to situations of exploitation that a person cannot refuse or leave because of threats, violence, coercion, abuse of power or deception.
According to the rating, 10 countries account for 60% of the total number of slaves in the world. Apart from Russia, the list of such countries include India, China, Pakistan, North Korea, Nigeria, Iraq, Indonesia, the Congo and the Philippines.
