Tajikistan's annual press freedom index dropped by 1 position down to 116 place
Almaty. February 12. Silkroadnews - Tajikistan in annual press freedom index worsened its position, dropping from 115 to 116 place, reported the Tajik news agency (TajikTA) on Thursday.
From Central Asia: Kyrgyzstan occupies 88 placce, Kazakhstan - 160 place, Uzbekistan - 166 place, Turkmenistan - 180 place.
Two-thirds among 180 countries, which conducted research, showed worse results than the previous few years. In part, this situation is due to increased activity of extremist groups, including the "Islamic state" and "Boko Haram", information warfare and pressure on the media by various non-governmental groups, says the document.
The report is based on a survey, sent out to partner organization "Reporters without Borders" and 130 correspondents around the world, as well as journalists, researchers, jurists and activists of the movement for the protection of human rights.
Questionnaire includes questions about direct attacks on journalists and the media, as well as indirect sources of pressure on the free press.
"Reporters Without Borders" note that this figure is derived with respect to freedom of the press, and has no relation to the assessment of the quality of journalism.
