Dushanbe. May 4. Silkroadnews –2013 Tajik anti-terrorism efforts were tamed by corrupt judicial system as well as by the abuse of anti-terrorist legislation with the purpose of suppressing political opposition, as the new US State department report on anti-terrorist measures reports.
“The lack of resources, corruption, insufficient training of law enforcement bodies and border control services can potentially tame the abilities of Tajik government to contain possible terrorist activities”, the report states. As the source further reports, overwhelming corruption also prevents effective reforms that wold help to contain financing of terrorism.
“Many of the measures that Tajik government undertook against extremism and radicalism have negatively affected the state of religious freedoms in the country. For instance, under-aged individuals are not allowed to visit mosques and women are prevented from performing religious rites at the mosques”, the report continues.
