Almaty. March 25. Silkroadnews - Tajikistan’s economic growth will decline from 6.7% of last year to 4.2% this year, the Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA) informs referring to the report by the World Bank (WB).

“Tajikistan’s economic growth rate will decrease from 6.7% in 2015 to 4.2% in 2016. Tajik families’ welfare level has decreased by 27% over the past three months. 46% of the country population cannot afford buying food products,” - the WB report “Survey of households well-being in Tajikistan” says.

The survey is carried out four times a year. The latest phase covers the period from November 2015 to this February.

WB specialists note such results have been caused not only by reduction in the number of employed people, but, first of all, by the reduction of remittances that many families lived on.

For the same reason, according to the World Bank, during January-March the households’ income decreased from 1100 somoni (about $150) to 775 (about $100), with the hardest impact on the urban population.

The researchers note that the number of households who have enough money to buy food products dropped to 54%, thus, 46% of population cannot afford buying sufficient amount of food products.

In the previous World Bank report, this estimate made around 40%.
