Tajikistan starts building the world’s tallest HPP dam

Almaty. October 31. Silkroadnews – The ceremony of opening the Rogun HPP construction was carried out in Rogun city on the Vakhsh river with participation of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, the press service of the head of state informed.

“The Rogun hydroelectric power plant is the ninth station in the Vakhsh cascade and is located 110 km from Dushanbe. Hydroelectric power plant consists of 6 units each of 600 mW power. A 335-meter dam of the Rogun HPP will be the highest stone-earth dam in the world, 3600 megawatts hydroelectric power plant is considered to be the largest hydroelectric power plant in the region”, the statement said.

It is noted, the hydroelectric plant is expected to meet Tajikistan’s demand in electricity.

The restoration and construction works at the Rogun HPP have disbursed more than 12.5 billion somoni.

According to the plan, the first stage of the Rogun hydroelectric power plant, that is, its first unit, will be launched before the end of 2018, followed by the launch of the second unit in April 2019 with the electricity generated to be supplied to the unified power system of the country. Thus, in December 2018 the hydroelectric station will start generating electricity.
