Taliban claimed capturing one of districts in Zabul province

Beijing. Jul 24. Silkroadnews - On Monday night Taliban militants attacked the administrative center of Atghar, in the southern province of Zabul, Afghanista, the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports.
According to the district’s administrative chief Abdul Qayyum, the armed clashes between militants and security forces lasted from 2a.m. till morning.
The press service of the governor of the province reports both sides suffered heavy losses, there are no reports about possible casualties among civilians, Pajhwok news agency reports.
The Taliban claimed seizing the district. Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, the group’s spokesman, said 23 government forces suffered casualties and many weapons had been captured, the report reads.
The local authorities rejected the seizure of the district, but express fears that without the due reinforcement the territory may turn into the control by the rebels.
It is worth noting that a day several districts of the neighboring Paktika province were also raided by the Taliban militants. Reportedly, at least 42 security troops were killed in the course of the fierce fighting over the past day.
