The ban on the import of Kyrgyz potatoes in Kazakhstan may be removed before June 8

Almaty. May 20. Silkroadnews – In Yerevan Kyrgyzstan’s Prime Minister Sooronbai Jeenbekov met with Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Massimov, KyrTAG reports.

“During the conversation the heads of the governments discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation, in particular the issue was raised on the temporary ban on the import of potatoes from Kyrgyzstan to Kazakhstan. The Prime Ministers decided to assign the Ministries of Agriculture of two countries to study the issue of removal of a temporary ban imposed on the import of Kyrgyz potatoes in Kazakhstan prior to the meeting of the Kyrgyz-Kazakhstan intergovernmental council to be held in Bishkek on June 8,” the publication says.

During the meeting S. Jeenbekov also invited K. Massimov to pay an official visit to Kyrgyzstan within the meeting of the CIS countries’ heads of governments to take place in Bishkek on June 7 and hold a meeting of the Kyrgyz-Kazakhstani intergovernmental council.

At present the heads of the governments visit Yerevan within the framework of the Eurasian intergovernmental council session.

To remind, since May 4, 2016, the Kazakhstani side, being guided by the provisions of the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union and International Convention on Plant Protection, has introduced a temporary ban on the import of potatoes from the Kyrgyz Republic.
