The “Day of the People’s April Revolution” has become the official holiday in Kyrgyzstan

“The President of the Kyrgyz Republic Almazbek Atambayev has signed a law “On amendments to some legislative acts of the Kyrgyz Republic (Labour Code of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, the Law “On the Day of People’s April Revolution - April 7”),” the statement said.

The law has been adopted by the Jogorku Kenesh today. From now on April 7 is the Day of People’s April Revolution, which is declared to be an official holiday.

Law becomes effective since its official publication.

On April 7, 2010, several thousand opposition supporters seized the Government House in Bishkek, having forced the president Kurmanbek Bakiyev to flee to the south of Kyrgyzstan. The guard forces opened fire for effect while people attempted to seize the building. As a total more than 400 people got injured and 87 people were killed that day. Bakiyev resigned a week after the overthrow.
