The government of Afghanistan is engaged in the “imposed war” and could not focus on fighting against corruption, the president said
Almaty. May 5. Silkroadnews – President of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said that the government is not able to eradicate corruption in the public institutions, Afghan news agency (AfTAG) reports.
In his comments during the European conference on the fight against corruption in Afghanistan, the president said there are certain factors contributing to weakening of government institutions.
He added the corruption is a legacy of the past and there are hundreds of cases waiting for their turn in the office of the attorney general.
“We have reorganized the former board on management and justice into the High Office of Oversight against Corruption,” A. Ghani said, adding that “the new chairman of the Supreme Court and recently approved the Attorney General have already breathed new life into the justice reform.”
According to him, the government considers thoroughly a proposal to set up a specialized anti-corruption center.
“With your help we will soon carry out a national campaign to attract our people in the struggle against corruption,” he noted.
At the same time, A. Ghani said, the government is mainly busy with the war imposed on the country, which does not give the country’s governmental officials the opportunity to focus on the fight against corruption.
