The international airport of Uzbekistan has been named after Islam Karimov

Almaty. January 26. Silkroadnews – Tashkent International Airport has been named after the first president of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, the decree of the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

“In view of sincere wishes and will of our fellow citizens, given the great historical achievements by the first President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov in gaining national independence, ensuring the country’s development and prosperity, to eternize his blessed memory assign to name the Tashkent international airport after Islam Karimov”, the document informs.

The Tashkent State Technical University, automobile plant in Asaka, the Palace of Arts in the city of Fergana and the main streets in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Tashkent city and regions have been named after Islam Karimov as well.

Every year on January 30 the country will celebrate the birthday of the first president of the republic, and on September 2 – the first president’s remembering day.

For university students the state scholarship named Islam Karimov was established.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev also assigned to build memorial complex in Samarkand in the territory of the place of burial, install a monument to the first president in Tashkent and Samarkand, organize at the Oqsaroy in Tashkent scientific-educational complex and republican charitable public fund named Islam Karimov, establish the museum of Islam Karimov in the city of Samarkand.

The first president of Uzbekistan I. Karimov died on September 2, 2016, at the age of 78 years as a result of a stroke. He was buried in his homeland in Samarkand, according to Muslim traditions.
