The President of Tajikistan at the UN General Assembly called on to review the methods of water management
Almaty. September 30. Silkroadnews - President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in his speech in New York, said that in the fight against terrorism it is necessary to achieve the destruction of the military infrastructure of the perpetrators, as well as suppression of channels of financing their activities, and urged to review water management, reported the UN news center.
The President noted that in the last 60 years the average annual air temperature in Tajikistan increased by one degree Celsius. According to him, increased the number of days with heavy rainfall, increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, accelerated the melting of glaciers.
He added that the climatic changes have caused reduction in water supplies stored in glaciers and snowfields, expanding areas of salinization of groundwater, as well as increasing precipitation intensity and variability. In turn, changes in the hydrological cycle, a negative impact on water, energy and food security can also result in additional risks of flooding and extreme drought.
"In these conditions, in our opinion, should be seriously reconsidered the methods used for water management so that to ensure reliable adaptation, taking into account not only climatic factor, but further growth of population and economy in the world, as well as the scarcity of fresh water resources",- said the president.
