The referendum for amendments to the Constitution has been carried out in Tajikistan; 94.5% of citizens supported the innovations

Almaty. May 23. Silkroadnews – According to the preliminary results of the national referendum held on May 22, 3 million 814 thousand 477 citizens, or 94.5% of voting citizens, supported the “Changes and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan”, 134 thousand 171 citizens, 3.3% of voting citizens, voted against, TajikTA reports with reference to the Central Electoral Commission.

The preliminary results of the national referendum on “Changes and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan” have been announced in Dushanbe today, on May 23.

According to the chairman of the Central Electoral Commission on Elections and Referendums of Tajikistan Bakhtiyor Khudoёrzoda Tavar, 4 million 38 thousand 183 people, that is 92% of the voting citizens, took part in the voting.  

Thus, the referendum is considered valid, and the decision to amend the Constitution with the changes and amendments is considered as approved.

More than 120 international observers from the CIS and SCO, along with more than 380 representatives of domestic and foreign media, took part in the referendum as observers.

For the first time the monitoring of the referendum also involved more than 7500 local observers representing the official political parties, youth unions, trade unions and civil society organizations.

According to the country’s legislation, the final results of the referendum shall be reported to the citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan through the mass-media by the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda not later than ten days after the end of voting.
