The Sarband HPS to be modernized in three years in Tajikistan
Almaty. February 28. Silkroadnews – The Sarband HPS in Tajikistan is to be modernized in two stages over three years, Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA) reported.
“The project for the Sarband hydropower station’s generation equipment is implemented in two phases. In particular, the initial stage of the project provides for modernization of 1, 2 and 5 hydraulic units along with repair of hydraulic units 3 and 6”, the publication says.
According to ministry of energy and industry, the first phase of the station modernization includes few components. It is planned to carry out the spillway sluices reconstruction and modernization, repair lifting equipment, compressed air system and fire prevention system.
As a part of the project the plan also provides for the power autotransformers #2 and #3 replacement, construction of new building for HPS control center, replacement of equipment in the electromechanical workshops, shore protection works on the river and connecting channel.
The second phase of the project will include modernization of 220, 110, 35 and 6 kW switchyards.
The project realization was launched out of the financial assistance by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in November of the last year. The cost of modernization of the Sarband HPS amounts to $136 million. The project is planned to be completed in 3 years.
It should be noted that the Sarband HPS was put into temporary operation within the construction of the cascade hydropower stations on the Vakhsh River in 1962; its full launch took place in 1966.
