Almaty. November 23. Silkroad News - The UN Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution proposed by France on combating "Islamic state" (IS) in Iraq and Syria. All 15 member countries of the Security Council voted in favor of the resolution, Russian media reported.
It is reported that the UN Security Council called on countries to take all necessary measures in accordance with international law to deal with the IS and the other terrorist organizations in Iraq and Syria, as well as to eliminate the extremists refuge in the territory of the two countries. This indicates that "the main foundation of the international fight against terrorism should be the UN Charter, including regulating the use of force".
The resolution also notes that in the near future may be approved an additional list of banned groups.
The members of the Security Council also called on UN member states "to intensify their efforts to curb the flow of foreign terrorists to Iraq and Syria" and suppress the financing of extremist groups that benefit from the sale of oil and antiquities. The resolution "unequivocally condemned" the terrorist attacks in Ankara, Beirut, Paris and the destruction of the Russian airliner over the Sinai Peninsula, and expressed condolences to the families of hundreds of victims as a result of these attacks.
Recall, the draft resolution was introduced by France on Thursday. Earlier on Wednesday, a revised draft was proposed by Russia.
