Almaty. May 27. Silkroadnews –  The US troops in Afghanistan will be reduced but remain in the country for a long time, on Wednesday the US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter said during the meeting with the U.S. Navy representatives in Newport (Rhode Island), TASS reports.

“Our plans in Afghanistan assume a reduction in the overall number of troops. Yet we will stay there for a long,” the Pentagon official emphasized.

He also assured that the US and its NATO allies will continue to finance the Afghan security forces.

“We have the financial resources to continue to provide them with. Our NATO allies have also made it clear they are going to continue to fund the Afghan security forces. This is the most important issue,” A. Carter said.

“And then we will stay in Afghanistan to support their security forces and the counter-terrorist operation. Next year it will not go anywhere,” he summarized.
