Almaty. January 13. Silkroadnews - There are no prerequisites for the growth of foreign investments in Tajikistan. This is what the report of the EDB Centre for Integration Studies “Eurasian Economic Union and the countries of the Eurasian continent: monitoring and analysis of direct investments” states, TajikTA reports.
“The objective prerequisites for the significant growth of foreign investment in Tajikistan are absent”, the report says.
There might be three major sources of foreign expansion. They are, in particular, - creation of subsidiaries of big national private transnational corporations; direct or indirect (through the controlled companies) government involvement in foreign direct investment implementation and the export of capital through the direct investments by individuals without changing their citizenship. However, in case of Tajikistan none of these factors work, the bank’s analysts said.
“Within the national business environment there are almost no big companies with competitive advantages that would penetrate the markets of CIS countries. Given that the state, seeking to speed up the economic development, pursues a policy of creating a positive balance of cross-border capital flows”, the report also notes.
As for the investments by individuals, the experts note that Tajikistan is a typical emigration country, whose wealthy citizens, in their opinion, “when buying the overseas property, also strive for local citizenship in the same country”.
The EDB analysts have not revealed any FDI from Tajikistan in foreign countries, at the same time they also point out that the International Monetary Fund estimated such investments in three countries of Eurasia as $1 million.
