This October the BRICS countries will discuss the global water resources use
Almaty. May 5. Silkroadnews – On October 13-14, 2016, Moscow will host a conference of BRICS, where the parties will discuss the sustainable use of the Commonwealth countries’ water resources, including the international aspects of water use, newspaper “Izvestia” writes.
“The water resources is an essential prerequisite to support existence of humankind and other living organisms and production processes in the most economy’s sectors . Solving problems related to water resources requires an integrated approach to their use and development of water infrastructure and water reuse technologies. Many of the problems of use and protection of water resources are of international nature and relevant not only for Russia, but also for its partner countries within BRICS group,” the publication says.
Last October Moscow hosted the BRICS ministerial meeting on science, technology and innovation. The meeting resulted in signing the “Moscow Declaration” mirroring the midterm BRICS countries cooperation guidelines.
“It’s time to discuss the world’s water crisis. It seems there is a lot of water on the planet, yet it is very unevenly allocated. Nature has its own laws we do not fully realize. We cannot give reliably projections on water volume for specific places next year,” said the head of the laboratory of aquatic ecology under the Institute for water and ecological problems, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vladimir Kirillov.
The BRICS association includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
