Almaty. July 18. Silkroadnews –  In 2016 a number of freight trains coming from Xiamen to Europe via Chengdu (the administrative center of Sichuan Province, Southwest China) is to be increased up to 100, Xinhua news agency reported.

According to the construction plan of Xiamen transport and logistics corridor published by the city administration it shall allow delivery of 4500 containers with goods worth 4 billion yuan (US$1 = 6.7yuan) to the European cities. By 2020 these numbers are to be increased up to 2 thousand trains, 80 thousand containers and 78.3 billion yuan respectively.

The background of the development plan with such a significant scale increase was the high trading activity between China and the European Union. For the first five months of this year the volume of bilateral trade amounted to 1.39 trillion yuan – here the EU confidently ranks the first among China’s major trading partners.

Xiamen authorities plan to use the new route launched in the summer of 2015 to facilitate imports of cars, cotton and other European goods into the country.

The train departs from Xiamen port Haijiao, a part of the Fujian pilot zones of free trade, via Chengdu it follows to checkpoint of Alashankou on the Chinese-Kazakhstani border, and then passes on the territory of Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus. The end point of the route is the Polish Lodz, from where the products are delivered to various European cities. The total length of the route is more than 10 thousand km the train passes in 15 days. Thus, the products from Taiwan, province of Fujian and Sichuan and Xinjiang can be directly delivered to Europe with lower transportation costs.
