Almaty. December 26. Silkroadnews – In opinion of the World Bank (WB) experts, Tajikistan’s situation with water and electricity supplies fared worse in 2016, TajikTA writes.

“Both the May-September 2015 to May-September 2016 comparison and the September 2015-to-September 2016 comparison show that water disruptions were more frequent in 2016. Similarly, electricity outages have been reported to have occurred more frequently this year. For example, the share of households to report any electricity outage outside electricity rationing schedule was higher by one-third in September 2016 in contrast to September 2015”, the WB survey “Listening to Tajikistan” says.

The limit on the consumption of electricity in Tajikistan was formally introduced as of November 1, 2016. According to “Barki Tojik”, drop in temperature caused a decrease in flow of the Vakhsh River at the site where the major hydroelectric stations of the Republic are located, which, in turn, does not allow producing the electricity volume to fully meet the country's domestic energy needs.

TajikTA reminds, earlier the energy authorities assured this winter power supply was to be not worse, at least, compared to last year’s winter, meaning electricity is to be available 10-12 hours a day. As for the limit on the consumption of electricity for rural population, unofficially it came into force as of October 12. Starting from that day people living in rural areas received electricity 7 hours a day. Yet after the formal introduction of limit the situation with electricity supply for rural sectors got improved gradually. At present the regions’ residents receive electrical power supply 12 hours a day.

Also starting from November 1 Tajikistan has risen price for electricity. The new tariffs are set at 14.65 dirham per kilowatt instead of previous 12.6 dirham.
