Kabul. August 28. Silkroadnews - US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Dan Feldman arrived on Wednesday in Afghanistan due to the failure of Dr. Abdullah Abdullah to participate in the monitoring process of the audit of votes, according to Afghan News Agency (AfTAG).
"The State Department said that the Special Representative Feldman met with both candidates and other stakeholders, including the UN mission", - says the publication on Thursday.
As noted, the Special Representative has confirmed the need for timely conduct of the electoral process, which honors the millions of votes cast by the Afghan people and ensure the legitimacy of the government of national unity, to control the sovereign, unified and democratic Afghanistan.
The audit has been put on hold for almost 7 hours on Wednesday due to a absence of observers from Abdullah Abdullah candidate.
Agency recalls that the chief observer of Abdullah Abdullah, Fazal Akhmad Mavani, warned on August 26 that they would boycott the audit of the vote, arguing that the audit process was not transparent and was influenced by politics. At the same time, the current Afghan President Hamid Karzai met with representatives of both candidates for the presidency.
Discussed the overcoming of political crisis in the country and the establishment of a national unity government.
Conversion of 8 million ballots on Monday entered in its final stage. Votes are recounted by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) of Afghanistan under the supervision of UN.
According to preliminary data of the IEC, the majority of votes in the second round, which took place on June 14, had the former Finance Minister of Afghanistan Ahmadzai. However, the former head of the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs refused to recognize the result, saying that a large-scale fraud took the place in the vote.
