To revise borders would mean to impinge on sovereignty
Almaty. April 10. Silkroadnews – A prominent Kazakh political activist Murat Auezov expressed his complete disgust with the position of Supreme Council’s of the Republic of Khakassia President. Mister Auezov was referring to Vladimir Shtygashev’s recent comments that Russia has a historic right to claim some of its former USSR territories, which would include East of Kazakhstan. As Shtygashev stated, Finnish Karelia was once a part of USSR and Baltic States would not have statehoods if not for the USSR. Caucasus was always leaning towards Russia to weaken influence of the Ottoman Empire.
“It is surprising that such comments are coming from the parliament leader of one of the Russia’s subjects, from the public servant, who is within the public service structure… We need to be straightforward about Russia’s Imperialistic ambitions”, the diplomat and cultural anthropologist highlighted.
Mister Auezov reminded that Russia has confirmed Kazakhstan right to claim territories of Eastern Kazakhstan back in the beginning of XX century.
Mister Auezov calls for Kazakh MFA to hand the note to its Russian counterpart, as Russia is currently Kazakhstan’s strategic partner. Khakassian politician’s claims that were meant to advocate for border revision is the impingement on Kazakhstan’s territorial integrity. “We have to stand together to defend our sovereignty and our independence”.
A prominent Kazakh writer Mukhtar Shakhanov supported Auezov’s point of view. He said that “the land, for which the blood of several generations was shed, always was and always will be a Kazakh land, inconsiderably what high-ranked low-mannered politicians might claim. If needed, our people will rise. Kazakhstan is not Ukraine. We will never let another “Crimea” happen. Let our Russian and Chinese neighbours know that”
