Trade volume between China and North Korea grew 10.5% in first half of 2017

Almaty. July 13. Silkroadnews – Chinese trade with North Korea jumped 10.5% in the first half of this year, CNBC reported.
“China’s imports from North Korea dropped 13.2 percent in January-to-June to $880 million. Exports to North Korea rose 29.1 percent to $1.67 billion during the period. China’s trade with North Korea expanded by 10.5 percent to $2.55 billion in the six months”, report reads.
Textile products and other labor-intensive goods not within the US embargo list are said to serve the major drivers for export from China. As for import of coal and iron ore from North Korea, it was carried out in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions.
Last week, following the missile test launch US President Donald Trump reportedly criticized China’s relations with the DPRK government, as, he said, China’s economic interests undermine the efforts to change the totalitarian regime of Kim Jong-un.
Throughout the past decade the United Nations and the United States attempted to use sanctions to stop the development of North Korea’s nuclear weapons, but the July 4 test launch, showing the DPRK significant progress, has forced international bodies to reconsider their response.
