Turkmenistan constructed the 146 km power transmission line towards Afghanistan

Almaty. March 28. Silkroadnews - Turkmenistan has completed the construction of the 146 km power transmission line (PTL) Iolotan-Takhtabazar towards Afghanistan, Trend reports.

A new power transmission line route map was presented to Turkmenistan’s president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during the cabinet meeting. Launch of new line will allow providing a higher level of reliability of energy supply not only to the native load customers, but the customers in neighboring Afghanistan as well.

Turkmenistan’s deliveries of electricity to Afghanistan are carried out on preferential terms.

Summarizing the results of 2015 the electricity production of Turkmenistan totaled 22.5 billion kWh, with export amounted to 3.2 billion kWh.

At present Turkmenistan works over the expansion of electricity export not only in the direction of Afghanistan, but also toward Iran and Turkey. The possibilities of electricity transmission to Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and the Caucasus countries are being examined currently.

By 2030 Turkmenistan plans to increase electricity production up to 35.5 billion kWh.
