Almaty. October 27. Silkroadnews - The U.S. authorities are in contact with the radical Afghan Taliban movement, urging them to sit down at the negotiating table on peace with the government in Kabul, the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says, the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports.
According to Tillerson, the U.S. administration is making efforts to form a situation in which Taliban leaders will be ready to surrender their weapons.
The publication says, the U.S. made it clear to the Taliban movement: it will never achieve a military victory in Afghanistan. While speaking to Taliban using confidential channels and their office in Doha, the U.S. ask if Taliban people want their children and grandchildren to continue to fight the same struggle, as that is exactly the way the things would be in case they not choose the other way forward.
Tillerson believes, the Afghan government is responsible to create the conditions the Taliban to sit at the table of peace negotiations. With this he also repeated, the U.S. suggest there is a room for Taliban to join the Afghan government. But for this, they must “renounce violence and terrorism” and commit to a stable, prosperous Afghanistan.
He also rejected the assumption that the U.S. could get bogged down in Afghanistan for another 16 years due to implementation of their new strategy for the country.
