Almaty. September 12. Silkroadnews – The national debt exceeded $20 trillion for the first time ever on Friday, Washington Examiner reported.
Mid-March the debt was reported frozen at a level of $19.84 trillion. The Treasury Department had to take serious measures to ensure the federal government could function without further borrowing. This allowed the White House some time to have consultations with the Congress, which at the end of last week passed a law on the temporary increase of the national debt ceiling.
The U.S. President Donald Trump signed the law on Friday allowing to resume the process of borrowing funds. At the same time, the new national debt ceiling will allow the state institutions to work until December 8 only, while the Congress is working on the federal budget for the 2018 financial year.
According to the portal monitoring the U.S. national debt state, now it reaches $20.16 trillion.
