U.S. troops may drop to as low as 5 000 in Afghanistan

Kabul. April 22. Silkroadnews – US officials do not exclude the possibility of dropping its troops in Afghanistan to as low as 5 000, AfTAG reports.
“The optimal number of troops needed for training of local security forces in Afghanistan was estimated by Washington at 10 000 people. However, it becomes apparent, that this number may drop to as low 5 000 people”, AfTAG reports this Tuesday.
American troops will mainly assist Afghan government in provision of security and Prevention of terrorism.
“Other options that would require American presence at 10 000 people are currently being considered as well”, the message adds.
The current US presence in Afghanistan is estimated at 35 000.
