Almaty. April 6. Silkroadnews - Ukrainian authorities decided to continue cooperation with Russia in space, informs the Russian newspaper "Izvestia".
"We have received from the Ukrainian authorities all permits required to send a team of technicians to service the rocket "Zenith" from Baikonur in July this year. This is a peaceful space, and in this area we will continue to cooperate with Russia. As for the launch of the satellite "Lybid", we still plan to run it from Baikonur. Rocket launch for this is actually completed, we only need to get from Russia the engine and the management system",- said CEO of Yuzhmash Sergey Voight.
As noted, the launch of the spacecraft with the help of "Zenith" from Baikonur will need $15 million to pay for the engine RD-171 and $150 thousand for the purchase of partially paid management system. And in 2-2.5 months the rocket will be ready for shipment to the launch site.
"If we search alternative launch vehicle and not the Russian cosmodrome, then the cost will increase up to $60 million and the entire operation will take about two years. As a result, it was decided to run the Ukrainian satellite "Zenith" from Baikonur and continue to cooperate with the Russian Space Agency on non-military programs",- says the publication.
The first Ukrainian geostationary telecommunications satellites "Lybid" was made jointly by the Canadian company MDA and Zheleznogorsk "ISS Reshetnev". The total cost of the project to create "Lybid" is $254 million, including the associated ground infrastructure and training of technical personnel. Currently, the unit is ready for safekeeping in the "ISS Reshetnev".
