Ukraine to become world’s third country after China and US in walnuts harvesting

Beijing. February 16. Silkroadnews - Ukraine will become the world’s third country after China and the United States for walnut harvest, the Kazakh Telegraph Agency (KazTAG) reports citing the Ukrainian Nuts Association.
As the association’s website informs, in 2018, 2,500 hectares of walnut gardens will be planted in the country, of which 1,500 hectares to be allocated to grow walnut, 890 hectares - hazelnuts, and 40 hectares to be planted with almonds.
Three walnut gardens and two hazelnut gardens will be registered and licensed this year, the report said on Friday.
In 2018, the government is going to reimburse 80% of the costs of seedlings when setting new gardens. 134 thousand tons of walnuts is projected to be harvested in 2018, the association said.
According to experts’ information, in 2018 focus will be made to the processing of walnut, including new products introduction. It is also planned to set 2-3 enterprises for shelling nuts. Such new products as tea made of walnuts young leaves, walnut oil, fuel briquettes and perfumery products made based on a nut shell are expected to be introduced at the market.
