UN expressed its willingness to strengthen cooperation with the SCO to ensure security in Afghanistan

Almaty. September 12. Silkroadnews - Organization of Unite Nations (UN) has expressed willingness to strengthen cooperation with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in providing security in Afghanistan, reported Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA).
"UN Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Jeffrey Feltman, who is currently in Dushanbe, where he participated in the summit of the SCO member states, declared UN readiness to strengthen cooperation with the SCO in ensuring stability in the Afghanistan. He called on for increased efforts to fight for the security and prosperity of Afghanistan",- said in a statement.
Speaking with a message on behalf of UN Secretary-General, Feltman said that one of the most important issues of the common agenda is the transformation in the field of security in Afghanistan and the withdrawal of international forces by the end of this year.
He stressed that the efforts of the SCO member states to address the threats posed by terrorism and drug trafficking, as well as their fight against illegal economic activities make an important contribution to strengthening the security of Afghanistan.
The representative of the United Nations called on the leaders of the region to expand the scope of trade with Afghanistan and invest more in the development of the infrastructure of the country, stressing that such moves will pay dividends throughout the region.
J. Feltman said that the UN is ready to strengthen cooperation with the SCO. According to him, the important role can play a Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia.
Recall that Dushanbe hosts meeting of the Council of Heads of Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), chaired by the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.
Accreditation to cover the meeting was received more than 500 domestic and foreign journalists.
