UN Secretary-General called on the presidential candidates of Afghanistan to recognize the results of the recount

Almaty. September 10. Silkroadnews - UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called on the candidates for the post of President of Afghanistan - the former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Abdullah and ex-finance minister Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai - to accept the results of the recount of the second round of elections and form a government of national unity, transmits Afghan News Agency (AfTAG).
"According to the agreement signed on July 12, politicians have pledged to accept the results of the audit and form a government of national unity. Given the closure verification and a recount, I hope that the candidates will follow the agreements reached, to ensure the first in Afghan history, peaceful transfer of power", - said the UN Secretary-General.
A similar appeal was addressed to the candidates from incumbent President Hamid Karzai.
Earlier in favor of the settlement of the current political crisis spoke German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Assistant Secretary of State Douglas Frantz.
Despite the efforts of the Afghan authorities and the international pressure, the situation around the second round of presidential elections in Afghanistan remains tense. On Monday, Abdullah Abdullah refused to recognize the results of the vote on the pretext of large-scale irregularities and fraud.
