UN Security Council to hold an emergency meeting on situation in Iran
Almaty. January 5. Silkroadnews - The United Nations Security Council (UN Security Council) will hold an emergency meeting on the situation in Iran, the Kazakh Telegraph Agency (KazTAG) reports with reference to TASS.
The UN Security Council is planning to hold an emergency meeting on the situation in Iran on Friday, the report said on Thursday.
According to the agency, the meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m. [20:00GMT] on Friday, January 5.
To remind, protests began in Iran on December 28. People in different cities of the country went out in demonstrations to express dissatisfaction with the rise in prices. As a result of the clashes with the police, at least 20 people were killed, including law enforcement officers. Iranian authorities reported on more than 450 people arrested for taking part in the riots.
On January 3, General Mohammad Ali Jafari, commander of the Revolutionary Guards corps (the elite unit of the Iranian Armed Forces), announced the defeat of the rebels. According to him, number of people taking part in the actions and riots across the country totals not more than 15,000.
