UN will develop cooperation with the CIS, CSTO and SCO

Almaty. November 12. Silkroadnews - The UN General Assembly decided to develop cooperation with the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and other regional organizations, reports the Russian news agency Tass.
As noted, the relevant resolutions were adopted by consensus.
In the adopted documents, in particular, noted that the SCO "has become the most important regional organization to consider the security of the region in all its aspects" and the Collective Security Treaty Organization during its existence "was transformed into a multifunctional structure that has the potential to respond adequately to a wide range of challenges and threats in its area of responsibility".
General Assembly welcomed the desire of the CIS to "strengthen and deepen its cooperation" with the UN and its agencies, expressing the belief that it "will promote the purposes and principles of the United Nations".
Presenting the draft documents on the CSTO and SCO, Russia's permanent representative to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, said that "the activities of regional organizations is an integral feature of modern international relations".
V.Churkin also reminded the General Assembly that from January 1, 2015, on the basis of the Eurasian Economic Community (EEC) will be established the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).
