Unmanned vehicles to be widely used in China in 3-5 years

Beijing. March 19. Silkroadnews - Unmanned vehicles will become quote common for to serve passengers on the highways between Beijing and Shanghai in three to five years, Robin Li Yanhong, CEO of one of China’s largest tech firms, CCTV.com channel reported.
Li said Baidu is currently building relationships with some of the major automakers.
According to him, Baidu will launch a limited number of unmanned minibuses this year. The minibus “Abolong” will first run on closed roads or in restricted areas, for example, in places of location of attractions.
“The next step is for China to offer legal support for automated cars, establish laws and policies that standardize the industry, and to encourage car producers to cooperate with research centers to hasten the development of technologies required for self-driving,” Sun Zhang, a professor at Shanghai Tongji University, told.
On March 1, China issued the first three road test licenses for smart car manufacturers, which allowed use of unmanned vehicles on a 5.6 km public road in the Jiading district of Shanghai.
