Up to 9 million tonnes of cargo is planned to transport through the railway border crossing between Kazakhstan and China till the end of the year

Almaty. August 29. Silkroadnews – Up to 9 million tonnes of cargo is planned to transport through the railway border crossing between Kazakhstan and China till the end of the year, which is a 23% growth compared to the last year, Chinese media reported.

In 2015 the volume of cargo transportation between Kazakhstan and China amounted to 7089 thousand tonnes.

4.495 million tonnes of cargo were transported through the railway border crossings Dostyk-Alashankou and Altynkol-Khorgos for seven months of 2016, i.e. 127 thousand tonnes more than over the same period of 2015.

The positive dynamics is also observed for the container traffic. For the seven months of this year 554 container trains, which is 2.5 times more compared to the same period of 2015, were reported on China-Europe-China transit through the territory of Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan and China have expressed their willingness to facilitate to grow the capacity of container traffic in China-Europe-China direction using the transport-transit potential of Kazakhstan. The countries have also reached a preliminary agreement on the volume of cargo to transport through the railway border crossings in 2017. It is projected at 11.5 million tonnes.
