US after 2016 can leave in Afghanistan 5000 troops
Almaty. October 6. Silkroadnews - President Barack Obama may leave in Afghanistan after 2016, 5000 US troops, that will continue to assist in the fight against the militants of the movement "Taliban" and the remnants of the group "al-Qaeda", reports Afghan News Agency (AfTAG).
The recent capture by Taliban of the city of Kunduz in northern Afghanistan, which was released only a few days later, increases the chances that Obama once again revises his initial plans for the withdrawal of troops from that country. The proposal to leave at the territory of Afghanistan after 2016 from 3 to 5 thousand US military personnel was presented in August by Gen. Martin Dempsey, who then headed the Staff of US Armed Forces.
The commander of US forces in Afghanistan, General John Campbell also introduced into the Pentagon and the White House his proposals to provide five options for the withdrawal of troops. According to him, after 2016 there may remain from a few hundred to several thousand American soldiers and officers. Currently, international forces are assisting in the preparation of the Afghan army and do not take part in combat operations.
