US blocked request of IOC to export sports equipment in DPRK
Beijing. Jul 26. Silkroadnews - Washington blocked the request of the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach to the UN Security Council Committee to exclude sports equipment from the list of goods banned for exports to the DPRK, the Kazakh Telegraph Agency (KazTAG) writes citing the newspaper Izvestia.
“The United States was the only one to object against approving the IOC president’s request by the UN Security Council Committee,” the source in the UN said on Thursday.
Meanwhile, T. Bach pointed out that the participation of athletes from the DPRK in future competitions may contribute to the normalization of relations between the two Koreas.
To remind, on July 21, the U.S. President Donald Trump signed a law designed to promote the human rights in the DPRK. The legislation, reportedly, contains provisions “that could be read to require the President to adopt a particular foreign policy of the United States or to direct negotiations with foreign governments and international organizations.”
