Almaty. September 13. Silkroadnews – The U.S. State Department reported Washington is concerned over Iran’s participation in the Astana process to resolve the situation in Syria, the Iranian Telegraph Agency (IrTAG) reports.
The U.S. remain concerned over Iran’s participation as the so-called “guarantor” in the Astana process. Iran’s activities in Syria and its unqualified support of the Assad regime consolidate the conflict and contribute to suffering by Syrians, the statement of the U.S. foreign ministry said.
Reportedly, the Syrian opposition confirmed its participation in the sixth round of talks to be held in Astana on September 14-15.
The previous round of the Astana process resulted in introduction of a ceasefire in the region. In the Syrian province of Homs, which became the third zone of de-escalation, the truce entered into force on August 4.
