US denied UN General Assembly to lift blockade on Cuba

Almaty. November 2. Silkroadnews - The United States denied the UN General Assembly (GA) to lift the blockade of Cuba, the Kazakh Telegraph Agency (KazTAG) reports with reference to TASS.
On Wednesday the United States confirmed the policy taken by President Donald Trump’s administration to continue pressure on Cuba, opposing the call by the UN General Assembly (GA) to lift the economic and trade blockade of the island lasting over 50 years. The vote on the resolution in the 193-member General Assembly was 191 to 2. The United States and Israel, which often acts in concert with its American ally, were the lone dissenters, the statement said on Thursday.
This, as noted, the White House rejected the U.S. position set in 2016, when for the first time in 25 years Washington abstained in U.N. vote condemning its Cuba policy. In addition to this, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley issued an apology for Obama administration at the UN while debating an international resolution condemning the U.S. embargo of Cuba and for saying of her predecessor Samantha Power, who a year ago said “the future of the island lies in the hands of the Cuban people.”
“Regrettably, as of today, the future of Cuba is not in your hands. It remains in the hands of your dictators,” N. Haley said.
The trade, economic and financial blockade of Cuba by the United States has been continuing since 1961, having started immediately after the Cuban revolution. Since 1992, every session of the UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution calling for the end of the blockade.
