US donated equipment supply to Uzbekistan to combat drug trafficking worth $6.2 million
Almaty. April 29. Silkroadnews - The US Defense Department for free supplied Uzbekistan with technology and equipment to combat drug trafficking in the amount of $6.2 million, reported UzTAG.
Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov, and US Ambassador to Uzbekistan Pamela Spratlen on April 27 signed a supplement to the intergovernmental agreement on assistance in the field of drug control and enforcement from 14 August 2001, says the press service.
The project assistance will be provided to the Committee for State Border Protection of National Security Service and the State Customs Committee of the Republic.
According to the US embassy, the aim of this support is to assist the law enforcement authorities of the Republic of Uzbekistan "in the development of the strategy for the disruption and destruction of major organizations engaged in illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors".
