Almaty. November 27. Silkroadnews – The U.S. statement on Yemen reveals the U.S. support of Saudi Arabia, Iran’s Foreign Ministry says, the Iran Telegraph Agency (IrTAG) reported with reference to the Tasnim News Agency.
“Iran’s Foreign Ministry dismissed a statement by the White House accusing Tehran of fueling instability in Yemen, saying the blatant support for Saudi Arabia’s military campaign against Yemen makes Washington an accomplice in the heinous crimes,” the report reads.
“The White House statement undoubtedly proves it clearly that the US has aided in and is accountable for the Saudi crimes against Yemen,” the agency quoted Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi saying.
He said this after the White House press secretary issued a statement hailing the coalition led by Saudi Arabia for assistance and accused Iran of supplying missiles to Yemen and violating the UN Security Council resolutions.
In response, the representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry once again confirmed, Iran has no military interaction with Yemen, stressing that Yemen’s defensive and missile potential is its internal problem.
“Instead of calling on Riyadh to stop bombing civilians in Yemen, the US is flagrantly supporting the continued offensive on Yemenis,” Qassemi said.
Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been launching deadly air strikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore the power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.
Since then, more than 10,000 people have been killed, millions have been forced to leave their homes, and the country has faced severe famine and a deadly outbreak of cholera. The recent Saudi blockade of Yemen worsened the situation with the humanitarian crisis.
