Beijing. February 22. Silkroadnews - The US President Donald Trump supports the ideas of arming schoolteachers and removing rules saying carrying weapons near schools is prohibited, the Kazakh Telegraph Agency (KazTAG) reports with reference to the BBC Russian service.
Trump made this statement at the White House, during a conference on violence involving teachers and students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, where 17 people died as a result of the shooting, the report said on Thursday.
D. Trump also supported the proposal to toughen the system of checks for those who wants to acquire firearms.
“We’ll be very strong on background checks, very strong emphasis on the mental health of somebody. It's not going to be talk like it's been in the past,” the US president said.
He also supported the proposal, which had long been put forward by the US National Rifle Association, to allow teachers and other school staff members to carry weapons.
“If you had a teacher who was adept at firearms. They could very well end the attack very quickly,” the agency quoted president saying.
He added, the proposal refers only to people who are good at handling firearms.
The president also criticized a gun-free zone creation around schools.
“A gun-free zone, to a maniac, because they are all cowards, a gun-free zone is, ‘let’s go in and let’s attack’,” he said.
The shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida turned to be the most dramatic in terms of number of victims since 2012.
