US to send a thousand advisers and new military equipment to Afghanistan
Beijing. January 12. Silkroadnews - The United States plans deploying additional military personnel and equipment, including drones, in Afghanistan, the Afghan News Agency (AfTAG) reports with reference to the digital version of the leading business American newspaper The Wall Street Journal.
According to the newspaper’s sources in the administration, Washington’s goal is to boost its presence there before the spring. Among the items that will be shipped there are unarmed and armed drones, vehicles, helicopters, and artillery, the publication reads.
Military advisers are expected to be sent to Afghanistan in early February. Taking into account the August decision stated by the U.S. President Donald Trump on 4,000 additional U.S. troops to be sent to Afghanistan, the total number of the American contingent in the country may exceed 14 thousand people.
The U.S. have been fighting in Afghanistan since October 2001, which, according to the Pentagon estimates, already costs $680 billion. 2,35 thousand American militaries were killed during the campaign, more than 20,000 were injured.
